Enhancements for on-demand internet streaming
On-demand internet streaming can be enhanced as a service through a number of ways. An example of an enhancement for on-demand internet streaming could be to increase the range of content available to users. This can be done simply by the involved services adding more content to their databases, as this would ultimately create more variety for customers, and they would be more likely to find their favourite programmes and movies because of this.
It could also be an enhancement if content was equally distributed between regions, as users won’t feel disadvantaged because of their geographic location - no matter where in the world they are situated, they won't be disadvantaged by receiving less content than others.
Furthermore, it would be a great enhancement to the service if users did not require subscriptions to access them, i.e. if the service was free. However, reality hits, and we realise that such enhancement is almost impossible to ever happen due to its impact on the service - it would essentially make service non-profitable, and so jobs would have to be cut. Also, this would mean that these services will not be able to afford the content licences for the media they stream, and so eventually, the service would become defunct. Although, if the impossible did happen, and on-demand internet streaming went free, its popularity would soar sky high, giving it the potential to even replace Freeview services on TV and radio.
The final enhancement I would like to address is that if on-demand video services could allow users to view content in high definition regardless of their internet speed. Currently, on most services, if users have a slow internet connection, this will respectively affect their video quality by automatically reducing it. What I propose as an enhancement is that is regardless of how slow the internet speed may be, high definition should still be achievable.
