Extent of the Digital Divide
It is clear from the previous pages in my eBook that the digital divide is not an issue occurring in merely just a handful of countries – it is an issue which concerns all countries, globally, making it an issue which cannot just simply be disregarded. Although this divide is being narrowed by certain authorities, it still continues to expand with the speed at which development of new technology occurs.
This divide has widened to such an extent, that [7]:
These facts certainly show how wide the digital divide has grown, and how much of a problem it is. With almost 360,000 people being born each day to make up for the approximately 155,000 who die every day, the issue of the digital divide will only worsen unless serious action is taken sooner, rather than later.

- There are 3 out of every 100 Africans on the internet, compared to 1 in 2 G8 inhabitants. This means that G8 hold nearly 50% of the worlds’ internet users, even though they only make up 15% of the total world population. In fact, there is almost the same amount of internet users between G8 country inhabitants, and the whole rest of the world combined.
- Again with G8 countries speeding ahead, 14% of the worlds’ population which lives in one of the G8 countries accounts for 34% of the worlds’ total mobile phone users.
These facts certainly show how wide the digital divide has grown, and how much of a problem it is.
