The Fear of Technology

Technology – the unstoppable electrical behemoth feasting on our innovation to leap forward in its conquest over mankind. Why be afraid?

In today’s day and age, technology has incorporated itself into the majority of tasks which one may face throughout their daily lives. Be this to do something such as order a take-away, or to read a newspaper; this causes a divide amongst older and younger generations. Older generations tend to feel overwhelmed by the advances of technology and lack confidence when it comes to using it, as they were not brought up bombarded by it (like younger generations are), and so to them, it’s all Greek. Due to this lack of confidence, a “fear” is developed among older generations, causing them to stay away from technology. Be this because they lack experience in using the technology, or because they fear the embarrassment which is brought by trying to and failing to use a piece of technology, a digital divide is opened up, ultimately causing segregation between the young and the old.
