Impact on personal life (2)

Although there are many advantageous implementations for crime prevention, sometimes these are not enough to stop crime, and certain regulations, such as CRB checks, could in fact ruin lives. Below, I have listed some disadvantages to the impacts of crime and crime prevention on lives in the information age.
  • Evidence could be planted in attempt to frame someone, ultimately destroying a career
              - Even if someone does not commit a crime, they could be framed for it so that the real perpetrator does not serve the sentence or get a criminal record. This could be done by planting evidence such as someone else’s hair samples (which can be used as templates to compare suspect DNA to) or by leaving someone else’s belongings behind at the crime scene to that the spotlight faces them in any inquisition. Ultimately both of these methods would shift the blame from the actual perpetrator. An example of this was with Arthur Allan Thomas who had evidence planted against him in the Crewe murders. Back to point, planting evidence can have dire effects on the accused’s career and life thereafter.
  • It has been made possible to print firearms using plastic in 3D printers
              - Communities can be made more dangerous when people try to use seemingly harmless technology to create something harmful. An example of this is with 3D printers, and the controversial invention by Cody Wilson – a plastic gun. Mr Wilson’s plastic gun is made from components, all of which can be printed within one’s home using a legal piece of technology, and one small metal component (the firing pin). The creation of such weapon makes it impossible for metal detectors at airports for example to identify if a passenger has a firearm in their possession, and being a gun, it has the potential to take a life.
  • CRB checks done by businesses could mean one never gets a job again
              - If someone has had a past conviction, it could mean that if they ever do try to apply for a job, when a CRB check is carried out on the applicant, they would be denied a work placement because of that criminal record. This can be considered as being unfair as even if that person has changed their ways, their past would be a barricade for their future.
