Cases which would not have been able to be solved previously can now be solved with ease due to techniques to gain information from crime scenes such as fingerprints or hair samples. Modern day technology makes it so minute details in crime scene such as inconsistent blood splatters can be picked up and provide vital information in murder cases. An example where the implementation of such technology would have been vital would have been in the 1880’s for example, when the streets of Whitehall were prowled by Jack the Ripper, debatable one of the best serial killers of all time. Investigators would take pictures of crime scenes but not realise the importance of them. However, with the development of technology in recent years, not all technology has been used for crime prevention; some has been used for illegal activity. This includes things such as the use of 3D printers to print firearms, or the illegal distribution of files.
